GIS and Facebook Data for Good Dataset Workshop for Female Developers

 

#BegumRokeyaSquad: Data Science Workshop”, a 2-day-long workshop, for women was organized by Preneur Lab Youth and Innovation Trust and EMK Center. It was a two days long workshop organized at the MakerLab of EMK Center. The focus of the workshop was to equip female professionals and developers on “GIS and Facebook data for good dataset”.

 

More then 70 participants got themselves registered for attending the workshop on data science. Among them finally 15 were shortlisted according to their educational backgrounds, institutions, residential location, etc and were confirmed to attend the workshop. 

The first day of the session was on 8 June 2022, started from 10:30 AM. Md. Ahasanul Hoque, Knowledge Management Expert, Gender-responsive Coastal Adaptation (GCA) Project, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was the special speaker of the session. On the first day the participants got training on the basics of GIS, Facebook data for good dataset, maps, GPS and location system, etc. Finally they were also introduced with the QGIS tool.

The second session was held on 9 June 2022. On the second day, Mr. Arif Nezami, Co-founder of Preneur Lab Youth and Innovation Trust conducted the session. The participants were trained on using the data processing software Weka. Ms Sikder Rituparna demonstrated population measurement tool QGIS, which uses the dataset from Facebook Data for Good. Mr. Mark Burrell, Regional Public Engagement Specialist (REPS) for South Asia, US State Department also visited the sessions and inspired the participants with a speech.

Finally the participants received certificates as acknowledgement of their participation in the workshop.

 

In this era of 4th industrial revolution, when the world is going forward using the new technologies, the women should also be a part of this. Preneur Lab and EMK Center organized this program to train and motivate the women towards the technology sector to go ahead. These organizations are hopeful to arrange such type of programs more in future.
